Acrylic Painter | Exploring Neo-Colonialism Through Art

Hi, I’m Andrew Chege, also known as Andre Be Crae, a Nairobi-based artist specializing in acrylics on canvas. My work dives deep into the subject of neo-colonialism in Kenya, inspired by the beauty of imperfection in humanity and our surroundings. I create all my artwork without brushes, instead using hard plastic cards to give my paintings a textured, unique feel.

My Artistic Journey:

• Brush-Free Technique: I’ve embraced a non-traditional style, forgoing brushes for plastic cards, allowing me to achieve a distinct look in my work.
• Themes of Neo-Colonialism: Much of my work explores the lingering effects of colonialism in modern Kenya, seeking to open discussions about identity, freedom, and our place in the world.
• Inspirations: I’m deeply inspired by artists like Cyrus Kabiru, Ann Mwiti, and Patrick Mukabi, all of whom have influenced my creative perspective and approach.

• Exhibitions & Recognition: Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to exhibit my pieces widely, both locally and internationally. My work has garnered attention, with several awards to my name, and it has found homes with collectors from around the globe.
• Colors of a Painter: One of my standout collections, titled Colors of a Painter, allowed me to delve into landscapes, questioning our existence and where we stand in the greater scheme of life.
• Vibrant & Expressive: My paintings are known for their bold colors, expressive strokes, and the thought-provoking themes they explore. Each piece is a journey, offering a new way to look at the world and the complexities of the human condition.
